India has produced many illustrious scholars, activists and thinkers. One such scholar and political activist was Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. He went on to become one of the ideologues and was the tenth President of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, a precursor of the present-day Bharatiya Janata Party. The present book ‘Samrat Chandragupta’ is a scholarly work of Pt. Deendyalji written in 1946.This is a story of a nationalist soldier and King Chandra Gupta, who was committed to his territory and his countrymen. The book gives a detailed account of how Chandragupta saved his territory from the dictatorial Nand Kings. The book gives a beautiful description of the dedication, commitment and sacrifice of both Chandragupta and his mentor Chanakya. The book highlights the national consciousness and devotion of the two towards their land and people. Overall, the book is a classical account of patriotic spirit of both Chandragupta and Kautilya which has relevance in the present times.
